Tooth Enamel Treatment

WHAT IS TOOTH ENAMEL?

Tooth enamel is the hard, outermost layer that covers the visible part of the tooth. It is composed of minerals, primarily hydroxyapatite crystals, making it the hardest substance in the human body. The main function of enamel is to protect the underlying dentin and pulp from bacterial attack and mechanical stresses during chewing.

Even though dental enamel is robust, acids have the ability to destroy it over time. These acids may be created by bacteria in the mouth after consuming sugars and starches or they may come from acidic foods and beverages. Enamel that has been lost cannot be replaced, making the tooth more prone to decay and sensitivity. It is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene, restrict the consumption of acidic and sugary meals, and schedule routine dental check-ups and cleanings in order to preserve tooth enamel.
